2011 Alumni Service Award Winner - Dave Selzer

Dave Selzer, President and CEO of Community Health Charities of Illinois

Dave Selzer

The Heartland Community College Alumni Association is giving its first-ever Alumni Service Award to former McLean County Board Member Dave Selzer. The award will be presented to Selzer before the first pitch at Heartland Night at the CornBelters on Sunday, August 28.

Selzer is currently President and CEO of Community Health Charities of Illinois but also served as Vice Chairman of the McLean County Board from 2000-2008 and was Chairman of the town of Normal Zoning Board of Appeals from 1989-2000. He has also served on numerous boards and commissions for great organizations such as the American Heart Association, Marc Center, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Knights of Columbus and the Bloomington-Normal Jaycees. “Being a part of a community means to give back what you receive. I got my start in Bloomington-Normal because of Heartland Community College and giving back has become a way of life for me,” said Selzer after learning that he was nominated by long-time friends Karen and Tony DeAngelis who operate the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Normal. “My dad always taught us to leave the world a little better than we found it. That wisdom and some of the early knowledge I gained at Heartland has helped me, my wife Barb, and my children help make our community a little better.”

As part of his nomination, Karen DeAngelis wrote about Selzer, “David has made a difference in the lives of the people of McLean County. His work at the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation has had long-term, live-saving implications in our community.” Selzer was part of a campaign to get defibrillators placed in many public locations and he was instrumental in growing attendance at an event that has now become a community staple, “Women’s Health Night,” held every February offering free screenings and health education.
